Lot: 121

Sold for (£): 17,050

Classic Car Auctions says:

Derived from a 1967 MGB donor, this factory-built Beribo Replica Automobile (BRA) 289 Cobra is the 70th of 260 manufactured. The '67 model year of the donor means this car benefits from free historic road tax, and allows it to carry a period style reg number, personalised to accommodate ‘289' in the number to suit the car.

The body is made of GRP and is painted in Red, which save for some small blemishes and minor stone chipping looks very good. The seats are in black leather piped in red and are in excellent order with only light signs of wear. The black carpets are near new, as is the quality, period correct, tonneau cover and wet weather gear, whilst the dashboard boasts correct period style Stewart Warner (SW) instruments and gauges. The engine is the bulletproof 3.5 litre Rover V8 fed through a downdraught Holley carburettor and emitting an explosive sound through twin stainless steel exhausts when given a prod!

The impressive history file with this car includes many MoTs, correspondence, receipts and invoices relating as far back as the original build in the late 1980s. It was owned from 2009 to May 2015 by a fastidious keeper who during his ownership amassed a heap of invoices and receipts relating to perhaps unnecessary, but prudent mechanical work including removing the cylinder heads and replacing all gaskets at a cost of more than £1,000 as recently as December 2014.

A very strong and powerful engine which is easy on the eye thanks to the Holley carburettor.

Gears: Drive-shaft:

Precise and accurate. Short-shift notchy gear-change is great fun!

Running Gear

Axles: Chassis:
Suspension: Bearings:
Brakes: Wheels/Tyres:

Solid and agile car. Two new front tyres will be required in next 6-12 months.

All behaves exactly as you would expect. Battery cut-off switch is very important for an occasional use car such as this.

A really impressive history with receipts for original parts purchase and build, plus regular maintenance and nearly all MoTs. Outstanding.
