SUMMARY
DESCRIPTION
A true 1970s Supercar...
The 911 Turbo, introduced in 1975 and remaining in production until 1989, was sufficiently different from previous versions to earn a new, 930, model number. Externally distinctive with its ""Whale Tail"" rear spoiler, wide tyres, bulging wheel arches and macho stance, 930s were also equipped with electric windows, a leather interior, tinted glass, headlamp washers and Bilstein shocks as standard. After two years the engine was enlarged from 3 litres to 3.3 and power outputs increased over time, from 260 to 330 bhp.
With 330 horses available, mostly at the same time, a 4-speed gearbox and the 911's distinctive handling characteristics, inappropriate use of the throttle could quickly turn a scenic drive into a drive through the scenery, however, an engine re-map in late 1977 reduced the Turbo-lag, making the car considerably more user-friendly.
Offered here is is the later 3.3 litre 930 Porsche 911 Turbo fitted with 'Group B' cams and finished in the classic combination of Grand Prix White with dramatic 'Martini stripes', a black leather interior and black carpets. Owned by the current vendor for the last 10 years, the history file shows that it's an original, UK supplied RHD car, first registered in January 1978.
There is a large history file supplied with the car, which is fairly comprehensive from 1991 (29,711 miles), but there are also dealer and specialist stamps from 3/2/78, altogether 14 in number up to 153,000 miles in 2004. Invoices in the history file show that it has had a full engine and gearbox overhaul and bodywork attention (10/94 @ 97,847 miles) with this work being carried out by Autofarm Porsche. We understand that Autofarm fitted 'Group B' cams, presumably at that time. More recently it's had the engine and gearbox out in 2014 when the car received bodywork restoration and was then professionally resprayed.
The car was exported by the our vendor to Ireland when he purchased it some 10 years ago and it currently resides in Ireland and is Irish registered. Its former UK registration number was 'DGK398S'. The current indicated mileage is 166,000 and the car is on a NOVA.
The enthusiastic vendor informs us that the car is a pleasure to drive and attracts enthusiastic glances wherever he goes.
With its ""Tea Tray"" rear spoiler and ""Look at me"" presence the 911 Turbo somehow came to represent the unfortunate excesses of the Eighties, but that image has faded over the last few years and the Turbo is now seen as a wonderful iconic classic Porsche.
