Exterior

Bodywork:

Glass:

Paint:

Chrome:

Trim:

Remarks

This has a fantastic 1960s retro look and finish. It’s in overall excellent condition with solid paintork and finish. It has been garaged since rebuilt, limited UV exposure. There are a few blemishes in the paintwork that are shown in the photos. On the top of the wings and the rear passenger side panel, there’s a few small solid lumps in the paintwork. The jacking points on either side are showing signs of rust, more so on the drivers side, also two other points of the metal work underside of the vehicle turning. Along the roof rails gutter there’s a couple of parts where there is rust showing. Also along the top of the sill at the drivers door there’s a small area of corrosion. The area’s mentioned above are easily worked on and the car is already in excellent show condition, they would take very little to rectify. All original windows with the car. New window wipers. Matching bullet wing mirrors, door scoop protectors, original door handles, new grille and bumpers front and back.

Interior

Door-Cards:

Carpets:

Seating:

Headlining:

Dashboard:

Boot:

Remarks

The entire interior has been renewed, it’s in first class show room condition. New dash board surround, door cards, rear and back window shelf panels, carpet, front and back seats, Moto - Lita steering wheel, gear knob, hand brake handle, door opening and window winding dark maple wood handles. The remainder are original, door lock and closing handles, interior mirror and head liner, centre console and dashboard, steering column, pedals, gear stick and hand brake are all original on the car. Keeping the head liner I feel has really helped maintain the classic car smell, when you open the door its like taking a step back in time sparking nostalgic memories of an older generation of vehicles. The interior was sent away to Newton Commercials, frames, stripped resprayed, front and back seats filled with fire retardant foam. Front seats covered in leather, the rear of the front seats and the back seats are covered in matching Vinyl. There are historical corrosion markings in the floor pans, more so under the drivers feet. All in solid interior and finish, heater works a treat. Black mats to go also. Rear boot and battery box is spotless. Two interim reel front seat belts. A little glue spray spatter on the interior rear floor seat storage areas.

Engine

Components:

Appearance:

Running:

Remarks

During the restoration, the engine was stripped and rebuilt. It has just been registered as a historic vehicle, so is now MOT and TAX exempt. Having said that it was put through an MOT, this highlighted a number of requirements, which were rectified by a classic Mini specialist garage, using genuine classic parts. It’s good to go, anything it needed was replaced, from starting to running, complete over haul. It’s in tip top running order and starts easily first time. It previously had the choke and interior handle replaced. Recently for the MOT it has had: New carburettor Gaskets Alternator Spark plugs Spark plug lead set Points Condenser Rotor arm Dizzy cap Water pump CV Gaitor Anti freeze Vacuum pipe Halogen head light conversion kit All lights and indicators, checked Rear hub bearings x 2 Rear brake hoses x2 Rear cylinders x 2 Brake fluid The engine bay is clean and the bonnet is lined with sound proofing felt. The car is cheap and economical to run, LEZ compliant, with the original 850cc low mileage engine. The car is 44 years old and runs reliably for it.

Transmission

Gears:

Clutch:

Drive-Shaft:

Remarks

The original transmission that is reliable and smooth now as it was when it first rolled off the line. A smooth four speed transition between the gears. Would describe as excellent, its not however trailered around, it is driven.

Running Gear

Axles:

Chassis:

Suspension:

Bearings:

Brakes:

Wheels & Tyres:

Remarks

Excellent condition, on the whole original. As mentioned above replaced, rear hubs, rear brakes hoses and cylinders. No problems at all and gives the ride you come to expect with a small two seater classic sports car.

Electrics

Minor:

Major:

Remarks

Again as above I would describe it has excellent, but it is not just for show, it is used. No problems with the electrics, as above new alternator. Headlight up graded and the remainder of the lights all checked and good. Interior light works as does the heater and rear window de-mister. 12 V socket fitted at the base of the steering column for a phone charger. Also good for charging a portable speaker for a few tunes. “It’s Caper Time”, Quincey Jones, those that know, know, and all that.

Vehicle History

Remarks

This was a basic 850 cc Super 1979, 44 year old mini. Tax and MOT exempt, ULEZ compliant. Was originally Russet Brown with a 70’s stripped brown and beige interior, although in its self good, in need of a face lift. Is now a classic 1960’s retro grey and white exterior, matching wheels and co-ordinating red leather interior, with he classic car smell to match. Possibly not everyone’s cup of tea, hopeful though that it catches someone’s eye and inspires.

Restoration Notes
