DESCRIPTION

OverviewThe Ford Capri was the Ford Mustang of Europe. A mind boggling array of options meant that the Capri could be whatever you wanted it to be; just like the Mustang. The Capri was, in fact, a far more varied animal than the Mustang with engines ranging from 1300cc to 3100cc as well as a myriad of trim specifications. The most popular engine was the 1600cc unit but the object of most desire, was the three litre. The Capri was released to the press on 24th January, 1969 at the Brussels Motor Show. There had previously been a press preview in Cyprus but Ford had requested that nothing about the new car be published until 24th January to coincide with the motor show. Surprisingly, this request was honoured and the Capri caused a sensation.DocumentationSupplied new by Currie Motors, Kingston on the first day of X-registration, this 2.8i is one of the very earliest surviving examples with the sought after four-speed gearbox and the very early two-tone black/grey facia and black headlining, distinctive Carla plaid Recaro seats and the iconic pepper-pot alloy wheels. It is also finished in what is considered to be the most desirable colour scheme, two-tone Forest Green over Crystal Green. Since 2001, the previous owner displayed the car on the classic car circuit until it was purchased by a private collector. This is a lovely example having benefitted from only mild restoration, and it is largely standard apart from a quality stainless-steel exhaust. It is supplied with a V5C registration document, an MOT which expires in July 2020, some previous MOT's, and a DVLA supplied owner history.MechanicsThe car drives and sounds wonderfully well and the alloy wheels have been nicely refurbished. Powered by a V6, 160bhp engine, the 2.8i was capable of 0-60mph in 7.8 seconds. It has latterly been maintained by acknowledged Capri specialists 'Tickover'. These early four-speed cars are now the most sought after Capri's after the later Brooklands model and their build quality was notably better than the later cars.Bodywork and interiorThe car sports an amazingly well presented interior, a top-tint windscreen, a face-off stereo and a hidden immobiliser switch. The car is in very good condition throughou
