Restoration Notes
Very rare with extreme provenance - pre-production model Lotus Elan M100 Calypso Red, fully restored to its former glory. Lotus made 15 pre -production (PP) models when developing and launching the ‘New Lotus Elan’ The build of this car: PP no:12 commenced on the 6th August 1989 and was finished on the 25th September 1989. It was then taken to the Tokyo motor show to exhibit as the new M100 in October 1989 and there is a picture of the car on the stand. The car was then registered for sale in April 1992. This is also a normally aspirated model which is a rarity in itself as only 129 were ever made. This car has been stripped, inspected and fully restored where necessary as described below: Bodywork full sympathetic restoration and re-painted in the original lotus Calipso Red with the chassis stripped rust treated, painted including the underbody which is painted in satin black stone chip. Brakes: fully restored with new discs/pads, rebuilt calipers, compensators, sliders, new brake pipes, and braided stainless performance hoses. Suspension fully refurbished – sandblasted, painted, re-bushed with new bolts, fixings and appropriate nylocs, cam adjusters, drop links, ball joints and wheel bearings. Steering rack reconditioned and system flushed with new fluids. Drive shafts refurbished greased with new CV boots and gearbox seals. Engine – Cam-belt replaced and adjusted, oils flushed and replaced and new filters oil/air/fuel. Gearbox oils replaced. Ignition rotor/cap/module and all drive belts replaced. Cooling – system flushed and replacement hi performance aluminum radiator with new coolant, thermostat, electric fans and sensors. Doors stripped, windows motors rebuilt with refitted sliders and fittings, greased and adjusted. New door inner and outer glass seals replaced. Interior – stripped cleaned and repainted, carpet deep cleaned or replaced and refitted, seats repaired and re-stained as original. Dash stripped and rebuilt where necessary with new lighting and central locking module, CD player and four speakers refitted. Wheels – sandblasted, powder coated in the original silver with new Toyo tyres, centre caps, performance valves and new locking bolts. The vehicle comes with detailed documented restoration, receipts and photographic evidence. There is a fresh MOT and the mileage is 80,200. There is some MOT history dating back to 2005 that authenticates the mileage from then. The last two owners since 2006 were father and son. This is a chance to purchase a chapter in lotus history which will surely be unrepeatable in times to come.
