Vehicle History

Please see below a letter from the original owner of the 2CV

Dear Jeremy,

I am so happy to hear that you have restored the 2CV. Here is a little history of her time with us.

In the late 80s, Norma saw an advert in a Sunday newspaper magazine showing a Citroen 2CV in the middle of a poppy or daisy field with a couple having a picnic and fell in love immediately with the car. I had a rugby friend who was a Citroen dealer in Yarm and so we went off to see him the following week. We were taken out for a test drive in the middle of which he went off the road and right across a field !! We were speechless but he explained that these models were designed for French farmers and needed to be tough. We ordered the car immediately and it came within two weeks.

For years and years I had the original documents including the garage receipt but typically it has gone awol. From memory, I think we paid either £2700 or £3400 not exactly sure.

The gear mechanism was unique and it took some practice before Norma was able to easily drive the car.S he loved the car from the moment she got it and spent many many happy years driving it with our two daughters in the back.

Joanna and Danielle loved the summer days with the roof rolled down when they would stand on the back seat with hands in the air singing at the top of their voices. They christened it Dolly our Noddy car. The girls have many many wonderful memories of it and were sad to see it go even though they are now in their 30s. Norma drove all over in the car frequently over to Carlisle to sit on Social Security Support Appeal Tribunals and Magistrates Court too as well as Middlesbrough, Newcastle, Durham, Darlington, Berwick. Scarborough for holidays too where the car was always admired as quirky. Dolly never ever broke down and was always amazingly reliable.1

"Dolly" has been off the road in the past few years - always with a view to refurbishment eventually. Then you came along with your offer to buy and restore the car and so it was the end of our darling "Dolly" in the McDonald family.

So we wish the new owners - whoever they may be - many many happy years with Dolly and if they have a quarter of the joy and happiness we had they will be very lucky people.

We can confirm that the mileage at the time you bought it was a true and accurate record of our usage.

Kind regards

Frank and Norma McDonald
