Lot No. 632 - 1964 Austin Healey 3000 MkIII (BJ8) Phase 1

Sold for: £53,280

From 48 years ownership, always used, restored and repaired, a remarkable story.
Details Specification Condition Report
  • Original UK right-hand drive. Sold by A.E. Neale. BMC in Hertford and first registered 21/05/1964
  • Owned by our vendor since August 1972 and kept running and maintained every year since
  • Partly restored in 1993 and January/February 2005 (rewired and resprayed) - see condition report
  • The engine is basically standard apart from a longer-dwell camshaft, six-branch exhaust manifold and stainless steel exhaust system
  • Full engine rebuild in 2013 - clutch/bearings/UJs/overdrive unit - see condition report
  • 2017: All new wire wheels with Blockley 165 x 15 tyres & tubes
  • 2019: Rebuilt rear axle with all new bearing & seals. Differential overhauled by Hardy Engineering. Brake cylinders overhauled, new handbrake linkages and new brake shoes
  • Matching numbers, Heritage Certificate, extensive history file with photos and invoices
  • This is a rare find. Big Healeys tend to be overpriced barn-finds or overpriced total restorations but this is the way they used to be, not Concours but well presented, well maintained, well-loved and just jump in and drive
  • New MOT until 23/08/2021 issued with no advisories

Vehicle History

Remarks

First registered 21st May 1964, sold by A.E. Neale, BMC dealers of Hertford. I’ve owned the car since August 1972 and have kept it in running condition every year but since 1976 it has been garaged and taken off the road every winter to avoid the salt spray. Estimated mileage in my ownership, 90,000. Accompanying the history file is a BMC original loose-leaf workshop manual and parts book.
