Lot No. 504 - 1953 Austin A70 Hereford Woodie

Sold for: £11,322

Delightful 'Shooting Brake' coachbuilt on an A70 Chassis Cab.
Details Specification Condition Report

In recent years this car has formed part of a large collection and as such has received little or no use and an element of recommissioning is to be expected to return it to the road once again. Your inspection pre-sale is welcomed and encouraged to appreciate the potential of this rarely offered motor car which is strictly sold as seen.

  • In the 1950s, most manufacturers outsourced their estate cars to specialised coachbuilders
  • The majority of A70 estates were built by Papworth Industries of Cambridge with 'barn doors' at the back, however, this example was finished with an attractive tailgate
  • Powered by the robust 68bhp, 2199cc OHV engine from the Austin 16 with a four-speed, column change manual gearbox
  • Succeeding the A70 Hampshire, the Hereford was introduced in 1950 and continued to 1954
  • This charming Woodie has obviously been carefully restored at some point and still presents well today
  • We understand the mileage as of 23/5/17 was 61,751
