Lot No. 512 - 1968 Gilbern Genie

Sold for: £6,438

A decent example of the second design from Wales' most successful car maker.
Details Specification Condition Report

In recent years this car has formed part of a large collection and as such has received little or no use and an element of recommissioning is to be expected to return it to the road once again. Your inspection pre-sale is welcomed and encouraged to appreciate the potential of this rarely offered motor car which is strictly sold as seen.

  • Following the Gilbern GT, Giles Smith and Bernard Friese came up with this well-balanced design for their 2nd model, the Genie
  • Making its debut at the London Motor Show in 1966, the Genie was fitted with a 3-litre Ford Essex V6 and gearbox fuelled through a twin-choke Weber. An overdrive on 3rd and 4th was an option and the running gear was mostly MGB
  • These are rare cars with only 197 recorded as leaving the factory in Llantwit Fardre and cost around £2,000 in 1968
  • Finished in orange with a black interior, this Genie will need a bit of light recommissioning before it 'pops out of the bottle'
