Vehicle History

Remarks

The car has been resprayed by SMS Autospray. A well-known specialist in fibreglass cars. They do a lot of Lotus. Interior was retrimmed by SJ Sportscars who are renowned Lotus specialists. Gearbox overhaul was carried out by a gearbox specialist based at Silverstone. The engine rebuild was by a local enthusiast as I didn’t have the time to do this work myself, given that the car came in pieces. Commissioning was carried out by Allon White Sportscars of Cranfield. The car stood in a garden from around 1992 and was sold to a fellow Lotus enthusiast in 2018. He was too busy to undertake the restoration so he sold it to me. I’ve restored several cars over the years. This is my third Esprit. As you will see from the photos and the costs spreadsheet, this has been a full ‘nut and bolt’ restoration with no expense spared. The car has matching numbers. It was originally black as can be seen from the Certificate of Provenance. However, it came to me with a very dodgy yellow respray. The car has been resprayed in an original Lotus orange colour used on may S1s and verified by SJ Sportcars. I can’t be sure about the mileage which is at 27,000, but then there is no evidence of it being clocked. Most of these cars lack history though. The car has been brought back to full original S1 spec including door mirror, correct wheels and steering wheel, all now close to impossible to source.
